Saralynn Turner, Master Scuba Instructor

People look at me like I am from outer space when I tell them that I have a scuba diving instruction and travel business in Memphis. They seem to think I must have a little water on the brain to pick such a landlocked area for a business that revolves around water, and I must admit I can see their point.
As the least likely student to even complete my Memphis State Scuba class, the idea of becoming self employed as a scuba instructor was the furthest thing from my mind as I completed my degree in International Business. I had it all planned out (or so I thought), I would work for a big multinational corporation, have a fine selection of dress for success suits, and travel the world over making my mark.
Curiously enough, the universe has a fine sense of humor! I have what I call a multi-dollar company, own a fine selection of swimsuits, wetsuits, and dry suits and do get to travel the world over with a fine group of diving adventurers in tow.
This is not exactly what I planned, but it is ten times better than what I would have ever visualized for myself.

Frank "Da Fish" Benedetti, Instructor

Scuba diving, to me, is one of the most peaceful and beautiful things that a person can experience in life. In my first five minutes in the ocean, I saw more kinds of fish than I had seen my entire life. Now, even after several hundred dives, I still manage to see something new on every dive trip.
I became an instructor in February 2002 (after much help and encouragement from Saralynn), so that I could work for Blackbeards Cruises, in the Bahamas. Imagine diving, fishing, and sailing everyday- and getting PAID for it! After leaving, I returned to Memphis to get married and start a family.
I have since become an EMT and am now working at The Med as a hyperbaric technician (which means I run the recompression chamber). So, although I can’t be on the water everyday, anymore, my work still keeps me involved with diving.
If you are one of those people that says “I always wanted to try diving”, just call Saralynn and our energetic crew will introduce you to this fantastic sport!

Chris "Tater Belle" Jones, Senior Divemaster

I've been an Easy Diver since 1996 and love diving more and more with each dive. When I first started diving, I was very "quantity-oriented"...the greater the number of dives, the better. But I got wiser and now it’s the quality that counts. I like to watch the marine life and see what's happening in their neighborhood. Without fail, I always say "this is so cool" at some point during a dive.
I've been a certified PADI Divemaster for almost a year and have been with a lot of you on your first open water dives and your first ocean dives. It is so much fun to see your expressions underwater and hear about the GIANT shark/turtle/puffer/catfish you just saw.
So, between the marine life and my new dive buddies, I am always having quality dives!

Randy "Wilson" Clark, Senior Divemaster

Scuba diving is a passion for me. I first started my diving enthusiasm in the early eighty’s while living in east Tennessee and diving the local lakes and quarries. After moving to the mid-south, I felt I had lost my accessible dive areas until I found Easy Divers. I have been diving with Easy Divers since 2001, and my passion for the sport has returned.
I am a wildlife biologist with the Corps of Engineers and have always enjoyed and experienced wildlife above water, but as a diver I can experience the wonders of the aquatic life underwater. Imagine nose to nose with bass, bluegill and catfish experienced in our local waters and the beauty of the animals in the saltwater world. You are apart of their world as a diver.
The ease of instruction by Saralynn and Frankie for kids and adults, along with the Easy Divers staff, makes scuba diving a sport the entire family can enjoy together.

Bob "Professor" Sweeney, Instructor

First of all, no I'm not a real professor (think Gilligan's Island). I began diving later in life than many, my daughter was home from college one summer and wanted to take scuba classes so I went along as a buddy and haven't stopped since. That was in 1987, and I went on to become an Instructor in 1992. Basically I am a selfish person. I like to have fun, and want to make sure everyone around me is having fun too. Showing folks how to dive safely and joining them on trips where we enjoy the wonders of the underwater world certainly fills the bill. Our goal as divers is to "be the fish" and look like we belong down there so we are accepted by the natives.

In the real world I am a Civil Engineer with my own company in Memphis, TN. We assist in the planning and design of land development projects as well as municipal infrastructure projects. Some of the Memphis projects I have worked on over the years include Peabody Place, Harbor Town, Oak Court Mall, Riverwood Farms, Countrywood, Cool Springs, Goodlett Farms, Uptown Redevelopment Area, and Federal Express World Headquarters.

Ross Owen, Divemaster Retired

Our favorite retiree who alternates his time between the golf course, diving like crazy in far flung destinations, and hanging out around the pool deck to be a good example of what the post retirement years can be.
