PADI OPEN WATER SCUBA CLASS (Beginner Scuba)
Do you want to explore 70% of the earth’s surface? Learn to dive, live the adventure!
Class has three components: E Learning at your computer, Confined Water training at Easy Divers pool, and final certification dives in Open Water (think lake, quarry, springs, ocean). We offer Open Water training dives both locally and internationally and can also refer you to PADI Instructors anywhere in the world.
To participate in Scuba diving you need to be able to swim well enough to jump into the deep end of the pool and swim to the other end and back and tread water or float for ten minutes. Healthy lungs are important, so we do not teach anyone who smokes or uses smokeless tobacco products. You must complete a medical health statement and may be required to seek permission from your doctor. Group class is open to anyone 15 years of age or older. Kids 10 – 14 years old must be evaluated during a Try Diving experience before being accepted into class.
You will need your own personal snorkeling gear. Not all gear is suitable for SCUBA. Properly selected and personally fitted snorkeling gear allows for a better learning experience. We are happy to waive the $100 SCUBA gear class rental fee for all students who purchase their snorkel gear (mask, snorkel, anti-fog, fins, & boots) from us. If you already own snorkeling gear, you may use it after it has been inspected by one of our Easy Divers Staff members. We sell professional grade scuba equipment and have competitive pricing.

OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVING COURSE With BSA Scuba Merit Badge
The first class session is held at our Clubhouse in Cordova, water sessions at the Millington or Cordova YMCA
Becoming a PADI Certified SCUBA diver is made up of three segments: academics, pool sessions, and four dives completed in Open Water (lakes, quarries, ocean). Our program gives our students more than enough time to develop comfort, skill, and confidence in the water. Once the boys complete all four segments and an extra BSA Merit Badge session, they will also achieve their BSA Merit Badge and an elective hour of college credit.
Upon completion of the classroom/pool sessions, the boys will be prepared for the Open Water dives and permanent certification. Final certification requires four dives over two days, with a PADI instructor at an actual dive destination. There are weekend trips to local quarries and lakes. Trip fees are not included in the class tuition: quarry trips run around $325 – $425 per weekend depending on location, not including accommodations. Camping options are available at most of our destinations.
Each student will need personal snorkeling gear, bathing suit, towel, water bottle and folding chair. We sell competitively priced kits that include mask, snorkel, fins, boots, anti-fog, and gear bag. Please do not purchase these items until you have met with your Easy Divers Instructor, not all snorkel gear meets SCUBA requirements. If students currently own snorkeling gear, it will need to be approved for SCUBA by one of our Staff Instructors. All divers must complete a Medical Statement and may be required to seek a Dr’s approval. Please visit our website: EasyDiversMemphis.com and review this statement listed under the Learn to Dive section.
